Director of Academics


Dr. Jahmal Mosley has an extensive background in education, with over 20 years of leadership experience across all three levels—teaching, administration, and policy development. His professional journey has been marked by a deep commitment to supporting all students, especially those in special education. Dr. Mosley’s belief in educational equity is the foundation of his career, as he aims to ensure that all students, regardless of background, can reach their full potential.

A Rich Educational Foundation

Dr. Mosley’s educational journey began with his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he concentrated on African-American History and Psychology. This early education provided him with a nuanced understanding of the social and environmental factors that influence student behavior and motivation. Dr. Mosley’s time as an undergraduate shaped his desire to help all students, particularly those in underprivileged communities, achieve a better quality of life through education.

In 1998, he completed his Master of Science in Education at Wheelock College in Boston, focusing on Special Needs, Elementary, and Middle School Education. His passion for teaching and learning grew during this period, laying the groundwork for his future leadership in education. His desire led him to pursue a Doctorate in Education from UMass-Amherst in 2010, specializing in Education Administration, Policy, and Research. Dr. Mosley’s doctoral research, which resulted in a dissertation titled Perceptions of Principal Attributes in an Era of Accountability, was published in the Journal of School Leadership and presented at the American Educational Research Association Conference.

In addition to his formal education, Dr. Mosley expanded his understanding of global educational systems. He studied international educational strategies, including those in China, and identified key factors that have contributed to China’s remarkable educational progress over the past few decades.

Dr. Mosley is an advocate for educational equity, which he believes is essential to ensuring that all students have the tools, opportunities, and support to succeed. His goal is to eliminate the predictability of success or failure based on social, economic, or demographic factors. Accomplishments in Special Education

Dr. Mosley’s expertise in special education is a cornerstone of his career. He has designed and assessed Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that address a wide range of disabilities, including speech, language, intellectual, hearing, emotional, and physical impairments.

His work with the NextGen Project is one of his key contributions to the field. The project integrates emerging technologies to provide personalized educational experiences for students with special needs. He also serves as a mentor to aspiring special education directors and advisors, offering guidance on removing barriers to learning and employment effectively.

Dr. Jahmal Mosley’s leadership roles span various administrative positions where he has demonstrated an ability to lead with vision, implement strategic plans, and foster collaboration within educational communities.

Director of Academics, Madison Park Technical Vocational High School (Feb 2023-present) 

In his current role, Dr. Mosley oversees the school’s curriculum, academic priorities, and district-wide initiatives. He is responsible for monitoring and evaluating student achievement goals while increasing parent engagement through organized events.

Superintendent for Administration, South Hadley Public Schools (July 2021-Jan. 2023) 

Dr. Mosley’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was vital in rolling out both in-person and distance learning plans. He helped improve communication platforms, developed a comprehensive budget that addressed human capital challenges, and played a key role in resolving conflicts within the district.

Superintendent of Schools and Administration, Nashua Public Schools (July 2017-July 2021) 

Dr. Mosley led Nashua Public Schools with a focus on fiscal responsibility and educational outcomes. He managed a $177 million budget, implemented a five-year strategic plan, and supervised over 2,500 district employees, all while ensuring transparent communication with the public.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Administration, Sharon Public Schools (July 2014-July 2017) 

Dr. Mosley played a significant role in overseeing curriculum reviews, professional development, and handling harassment and bullying cases. His strategic leadership helped align the district’s policies with state mandates and facilitated the implementation of the teacher evaluation system.

Principal, Somerset Berkley Regional High School (July 2011-July 2014) 

Dr. Mosley led Somerset Berkley Regional High School through significant improvements, raising it from Level 2 to Level 1. He developed a strategic action plan to engage students effectively and integrated modern learning tools to support academic success.

Charitable Contributions and Advocacy

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Mosley is deeply committed to community service. He regularly contributes to organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, and NAACP, which provide safe spaces for young people to grow and thrive outside of school. His contributions to the Salvation Army help reduce the struggles faced by people experiencing homelessness and those in need.
